Laboratories are becoming more aware of the new decision-rule requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017, but first we need to understand the entire picture of the service requested to determine which decision rule is most appropriate for a given situation. This webinar will discuss how, through contract review, decision rules are agreed on, documented, and understood by all parties to the service requested to meet the requirements of the standard. Examples from the revised ILAC G8 will be discussed.

Takeaways:

  1. Identify standard requirements in ISO/IEC 17025:2017, including risk management, measurement uncertainty, and decision rules and statement of compliance risk.
  2. Understand the links (and differences).
  3. Understand how to make proper decisions.
  4. Take knowledge and tools to your lab to assure everyone the risk-based thinking, measurement uncertainty, and decision rules are inherent to conformity assessment body (CAB) work and are easy.

Presenter: Ryan Fischer, ANAB Senior Manager of Accreditation

While working with two calibration laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, Fischer's duties consisted of working from a quality system consisting of more than 150 work instructions for dimensional, physical, and mechanical calibrations. He also was involved in accreditation  assessments and implementing and reacting to preventative and corrective actions. Fischer joined the Laboratory Accreditation Bureau (prior to its acquisition by ANAB) in 2003 as Technical Coordinator and later became Calibration Program Manager. While with L-A-B, he embraced the proficiency testing program to monitor the PT/ILCs of all their accredited laboratories. He is currently an ANAB Senior Manager of Accreditation for calibration and dimensional measurement laboratories.
