Pittcon 2023

Held Mar 18-22 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA. Pittcon is a transnational conference and exposition on laboratory science where attendees can keep up with the latest developments in scientific instrumentation, network with other professionals, and find continuing learning opportunities.

Pittcon is relevant to anyone who develops, buys, or sells laboratory equipment, performs physical or chemical analyses, develops analysis methods, or manages these scientists.

ANAB Courses at Pittcon 2023

ANAB will be presenting three courses at Pittcon 2023:

Basic Laboratory Statistics (Mar 22, 2023)

This course introduces attendees to basic statistical concepts and techniques used for collection, organization, analysis, and presentation of data. It addresses:

  • Both descriptive statistics and inferential statistics
  • Graphical representation of data
  • Least squares regression and correlation
  • Calculating probabilities and evaluating probability and sampling distributions
  • Hypothesis testing
  • Confidence intervals and statistical inference
  • Drawing conclusions about the underlying population
This session will also feature a demonstration of the practical application of these statistical concepts and techniques to various requirements in ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17020.

Cause Analysis and Corrective Action (Mar 21, 2023)

In this course, participants will learn the four most common cause analysis techniques:

  • Ishikawa diagrams
  • Five whys
  • FMEA
  • Pareto charts
Each concept will be reinforced through an example related to the operation of a testing laboratory. In addition to these techniques, this course will teach attendees standard requirements related to cause analysis and corrective action, how to use cause analysis for process improvement, and the skill necessary to perform an effective cause analysis.

Method Validation of Chemical Analytical Methods of Cannabis and Cannabis-Derived Products (Mar 21, 2023)

In the absence of industry-standard methods for cannabis testing, robust method validation is critical to ensure the test methods are fit for the intended use. This course focuses on method development and the importance of the method validation process, including determining a method’s fitness for use, common quality control activities, and the importance of the validation package, as well as validation characteristics that are part of the validation process. It will also review method validation requirements from ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
