The Importance of Sampling in Testing
Watch this free webinar as we review the requirements for sampling, as well as discuss ANAB’s new program for sampling and sampling organizations.
The importance of sampling in testing cannot be overstated. Sampling is seen as the largest contributor to measurement uncertainty. Accurate, reliable results depend on the quality of the sample taken prior to testing. Yet quality control and quality assurance for the handling and transportation of samples remains poorly evaluated compared to the testing of these same samples.
The increased focus on sampling in ISO/IEC 17025:2017 is a step in the right direction. The standard specifies general requirements for competence to carry out tests and calibrations, including sampling. Sampling and testing must be performed by a competent organization. Therefore, some laboratories and sampling organizations are seeking ANAB accreditation to formally demonstrate competence in sampling.
