ISO/IEC 17020:2026 and ISO/IEC 17024:2026 Now Available

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has published updated versions of two widely used conformity assessment standards: ISO/IEC 17020:2026 and ISO/IEC 17024:2026. Both standards are now available for purchase.
ISO/IEC 17020 establishes requirements for inspection bodies — organizations that examine products, processes, services, or installations against defined requirements. Inspection bodies operating in industries such as cybersecurity, food safety, environmental, and construction rely on this standard as the basis for accreditation. This is also the standard that Certified Third-Party Assessment Organizations (C3PAOs) must meet to achieve Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) accreditation.
ISO/IEC 17024 establishes requirements for bodies that certify persons against specific competency requirements. Personnel certification bodies operating certification programs across a wide range of professions and industries use this standard as the foundation for their accreditation.
Both standards were last revised in 2012, making these the first updates in more than a decade.
ANAB accredits organizations under both standards, and transition guidance will be communicated to accredited bodies as details are established. In the meantime, ANAB training is available to help your organization understand what’s changing and prepare for the updated requirements.
