FCC Recognizes ANAB as Accreditation Body for the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark Program

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recognized the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) as an accreditation body for the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark. The mark is the FCC’s voluntary cybersecurity label that helps consumers identify wireless Internet of Things (IoT) products that meet federal security criteria. The FCC’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau announced the decision in a public notice (DA 26-1029) released September 28, 2026.

With this recognition, ANAB can accredit two types of organizations that make the program work:

• Cybersecurity Label Administrators (CLAs), accredited to ISO/IEC 17065. CLAs review applications and authorize products to carry the mark.
• Cybersecurity Testing Laboratories (CyberLABs), accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. CyberLABs test products against program requirements.

ANAB accreditation gives certification bodies and laboratories a path to serve in the Cybersecurity Trust Mark program and help strengthen cybersecurity for U.S. consumers.

In its notice, the Bureau found that ANAB demonstrated the credentials, qualifications, and competence to assess CLAs and CyberLABs. The Bureau based that finding on several factors: ANAB meets ISO/IEC 17011, the international standard for accreditation bodies;  it has qualified assessors; and it has established procedures for accrediting laboratories and certification bodies.

“Consumers are bringing more connected devices into their homes every year, and they deserve confidence that those products meet meaningful security requirements. That confidence depends on the competence and impartiality of the organizations testing and certifying them. We’re proud the FCC has entrusted ANAB with that responsibility, and we look forward to working with label administrators and laboratories as the program grows,” said Warren Merkel, ANAB incoming interim executive director.
