ANAB Executive Director Lane Hallenbeck Retires, Interim Leadership Team Announced

Lane Hallenbeck of the ANSI National Accreditation Board, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), retired as ANAB executive director, effective November 30, 2021. Mr. Hallenbeck first joined ANSI in 2000 as vice president of accreditation services and was named ANAB executive director in 2018. As executive director, Mr. Hallenbeck held the critical role of leading the integration of operations when ANSI acquired full interests in ANAB.

“Lane has been a strong advocate of the benefits of conformity assessment and its expansion across the world,” said Joe Bhatia, president and CEO of ANSI. “He has been recognized as a leader in our industry throughout his career, including his election to ISO CASCO chair from 2012 to 2015. Lane has been a valued member of our leadership team, and will be missed. On behalf of ANSI, ANAB, and the conformity assessment, community, I thank Mr. Hallenbeck for his excellent contributions and wish him all the best in his retirement.”

With the search for ANAB’s new executive director now underway, ANSI has put a transition process in place to ensure that ANAB’s operations continue to run effectively. Doug Leonard, ANAB vice president of product, inspection, laboratory, and related activities, and Reinaldo Figueiredo, who will assume the role of ANAB vice president of conformity assessment strategy in January 2022, will serve as co-interim executive directors while ANSI engages an executive search firm to help select a new executive director.

Under the interim structure, Mr. Leonard will oversee ANAB’s product inspection, laboratory and related activities, forensics services, human resources, and accounting. Mr. Figueiredo will oversee ANAB’s credentialing and management systems/validation and verification services, as well as its systems integrity team and business development.

“I am fully confident that Doug and Reinaldo will provide the leadership needed during this transition period, continuing to deliver the high level of accreditation services our clients expect to bring trust and confidence to the global market,” said Joe Bhatia.
