Long Receives ASME Certificate of Acclamation
ANAB’s Randy Long was recently awarded a Certificate of Acclamation for his work on the project team that developed the American Society of Mechanical Engineers’ newest standard for calipers.
The new ASME standard outlines the acceptance requirements and maximum permissible errors for new calipers and describes the criteria for calibration (or verification) of the different measurement modes of these common dimensional hand tools. The document also describes the techniques and uncertainty contributors associated with these calibrations.
Long, who is and ANAB accreditation manager for calibration, is also involved in another ASME project team nearing completion of a standard for optical comparators. The Certificate of Acclamation was presented by ASME’s B89 Dimensional Metrology Standards Committee.
In addition to working on ASME standards, ANAB employees are involved in standards developing efforts with ASTM International, ANSI Accredited Standards Committee C63®, and NCSL International. These efforts are intended to harmonize language related to conformity assessment activities, such as good laboratory practices, measurement traceability, and uncertainty of measurement. ANAB views its participation as a value-added service to our stakeholders and customers.
