ANAB is pleased to announce renewal of its recognition under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) voluntary Accredited Third-Party Certification Program (TPP) for another 5 years. The renewal of recognition came after ANAB was evaluated by FDA and successfully demonstrated conformance with all FDA requirements, including technical competence for each scope for which ANAB is recognized.

As an accreditation body recognized by FDA, ANAB has the authority to accredit third-party certification bodies (CBs) that will conduct food safety audits of foreign food entities using FDA’s safety standards and, based on their audit findings, may issue certifications of foreign food facilities and the foods they produce for people and animals.

The program was established in 2017 by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and ANAB was the first accreditation body to gain FDA recognition in 2018. During the past five years, ANAB has significantly expanded its scope of recognition with the FDA, providing ANAB customers with a greater ability to service their customers. ANAB’s full scope of recognition is publicly available on the FDA’s Accredited Body Public Registry.

“We look forward to continuing working with FDA to further advance the TPP. ANAB provides further credibility by incorporating the requirements of ISO/IEC 17021-1 or ISO/IEC 17065, the international standards for accreditation of certification bodies, as base requirements for this program, in addition to FDA requirements. CBs may elect to be accredited in accordance with ISO/IEC 17021-1 or ISO/IEC 17065, providing the CBs with a choice of the program that is best suited for their business needs,” said Lori Gillespie, ANAB vice president of management systems, validation and verification, and product certification.
