Revision of ISO/IEC 17024: A Status Update

This webinar will provide a review of the events leading up to the revision of ISO/IEC 17024 that is now underway.  The ANAB expert to ISO CASCO WG(Working Group) 30 will discuss the critical changes now being considered in the revision of ISO/IEC 17024.  When a revised ISO/IEC 17024 is finally published, all users will benefit from the information from this webinar as the background and context in which to understand and implement the revised standard.

ISO/IEC 17000 series standards have been in use for 25 years as requirements for the competence, consistency, and impartiality of many types of conformity assessment bodies.  Accreditation as a demonstration that a conformity assessment body fulfills the ISO/IEC 17024 standard is widely demanded and accepted as assurance that the deliverables from the conformity assessment body are trustworthy.  The global infrastructure of conformity assessment and accreditation bodies can be accessed by individuals and organizations around the globe as a basis for quickly developing the trust necessary for global trade and global solutions to societal problems.

So all is well; proof of the effectiveness of the ISO/IEC 17024 standard grows as it is used more and more around the world and more and more individuals and organizations become familiar and knowledgeable about it.  Right? . . . .  Except standards are not static.  Periodically the need for a standard to be updated or revised should be considered.  At some point a standard will likely need to be updated or revised.  The key question then becomes how can the revision make the needed changes but ensure the trust based on the old version of the standard is still warranted?  Because revisions of the ISO/IEC 17024 standard can impact trust between individuals and organizations globally, getting information during the revision process can be crucial.
