The 2023 edition of ISO/IEC 17043 published May 8, 2023. The main changes to the standard include harmonization with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO 13528:2022, as well as inclusion of the requirement that testing and calibration activities and proficiency testing item production conform to relevant requirements of appropriate ISO conformity assessment standards. Additionally, the standard was updated to include the requirements from ISO/CASCO PROC 33, which includes a common structure and elements across conformity assessment standards.

ILAC has designated a 3-year transition period for proficiency testing providers to transition their processes and procedures to the requirements in ISO/IEC 17043:2023. ANAB will begin assessing to the 2023 edition of the standard in August 2023, with full transition away from 2010 in May 2024.

The self-paced ISO/IEC 17043 Transition Training provides a comparison of the requirements from the 2010 edition to the 2023 edition to prepare proficiency testing providers to transition to the new edition of the standard. A crosswalk of clauses is included in the course materials, as well.

  • Understand the main changes from the 2010 to the 2023 edition of the standard
  • Understand the ISO/CASCO harmonized structure and obligatory requirements
  • Review a crosswalk between the 2010 and the new 2023 edition

This course is designed for proficiency testing providers who develop interlaboratory comparisons and operate proficiency testing schemes. Accredited proficiency testing providers will benefit from learning the changes in the requirements of the standard. Non-accredited proficiency testing providers will gain a general understanding of the new requirements and how those requirements align with other ISO/IEC standards, such as ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
