World Standards Day 2019 to Explore How Standards Build Connections
As American industries embrace increasingly rapid and interconnected advancements in technology, the 2019 U.S. celebration of World Standards Day on November 7 will highlight the critical role of voluntary standards and conformity assessment in driving innovation.
Technology is transforming the world and voluntary standards and conformity assessment activities enable innovators to build on established technologies – and devise modern solutions that allow people, organizations, and systems worldwide to connect in ever-evolving ways.
“Standards Build Connections” is this year’s theme for the U.S. celebration of World Standards Day. The celebration will salute the collaborative work of the standardization community with a networking reception, exhibits, and gala dinner in Washington, DC. The event will include presentation of the 2019 Ronald H. Brown Standards Leadership Award, which honors an individual who has effectively promoted standardization as a key tool in the elimination of global trade barriers. In addition, SES: The Society for Standards Professionals will announce the winners of the 2019 World Standards Day Paper Competition.
World Standards Day was launched in 1970 and is celebrated around the globe. U.S. activities are organized annually by a planning committee consisting of representatives from the standards and conformity assessment community. The annual event is co-chaired by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This year, the American Petroleum Institute is as the administrating organization.
