The Pellet Fuels Institute (PFI) has recently finalized revisions to its Residential/Commercial Densified Fuels Standards Program (hereafter PFI Standards Program). Densified fuel is certified under the PFI Standards Program by Product Certification Bodies accredited to ISO/IEC 17065 and accepted by PFI. Certification of densified fuels utilizes results from Inspection Bodies accredited to ISO/IEC 17020 and accepted by PFI and from Testing Laboratories accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 and accepted by PFI.
ANAB is working closely with PFI in the development and implementation of the revised PFI Standards Program and is accepting applications for all accreditations related to the PFI Program. Through ongoing dialog with PFI ANAB is uniquely positioned with expertise regarding the PFI Standards Program to deliver high integrity accreditation that serves the needs of this industry both now and for the future.
Through the use of a PFI Marking, the PFI Standards Program provides assurance to distributors, retailers and consumers that densified fuels meet requirements in the PFI Standard Specification for Residential/Commercial Densified Fuels. Consumers comply with US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations in 40 CFR 60.532 (e), and thus protect air quality, by using densified fuels with the PFI Marking in their wood heaters certified by the EPA to burn pellet fuels.
