AR 3181, Accreditation Requirements for the Management and Operation of Property and Evidence Control Units
Protecting the integrity of items under the control of property and evidence control units is an essential element of preserving their evidential value. AR 3181 consists of requirements that will enable the property and evidence control unit to demonstrate its competence to maintain the integrity of items through provision of appropriate packaging, receipt, storage, transfer, transport, and disposition of these items.
AR 3181 specifies requirements that address professional integrity, confidentiality, personnel, facilities, equipment, property and evidence items, inventory, complaints, and management system requirements including the control of records and documents, risks and opportunities, nonconforming work, internal audits, and management reviews.
AR 3181 does not specify requirements for the collection or sampling of property and evidence items, or the testing, calibration or inspection of items. These activities are accredited under ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO/IEC 17020 requirements.
