The ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) accreditation mark is a symbol of excellence, recognized worldwide by employers, industry leaders, hiring managers, and credential holders. Since its launch in 2003, our personnel certification accreditation program based on the international standard ISO/IEC 17024:2012, Conformity assessment - General requirements for bodies operating certification of persons, has helped certification programs make the journey from good to great. More than 5.2 million people worldwide and counting hold a certification from an ANAB-accredited organization.

The Value of ISO/IEC 17024 Accreditation

  • The ANAB symbol signals to an employer that the credential holder has undergone a valid, fair, and reliable assessment to verify that they have the necessary competencies to practice.
  • ANAB accreditation provides an added layer of legal defensibility against invalid claims.
  • Many government agencies, such as the U.S. Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Federal and State OSHA, and the FDA, rely on ANAB accreditation as it assures the competency of the certification program.
  • The accountability and transparency built into the ANAB process support conformity assessment attestations, and can result in reduced liability insurance.

International Recognition

ANAB is the first personnel certification accreditation body in the United States to meet internationally accepted practices for accreditation, and the first to become a signatory of the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (PAC) Multilateral Arrangement (MLA) for ISO/IEC 17024. ANAB's international involvement and recognition saves time and money for ANAB-accredited certification bodies looking to expand into international markets.

Learn How to Apply for Accreditation

The ANAB accreditation symbol on your certificates conveys distinction in the marketplace that is recognized by the public and consumers. The process used by ANAB to accredit certification bodies is based on an international standard (ISO/IEC 17011). Adherence to a rigorous internationally recognized accreditation process ensures that the ANAB process conforms to the highest accreditation standard and represents the best practices in accreditation.

The ANAB accreditation process involves both a review of a paper application and the performance of an assessment (on-site visit) to validate information provided by each applicant certification body. The use of an on-site assessment for accreditation of personnel certification agencies is unique to ANAB.

To learn more about the application process go to How to Apply or attend one of ANAB's Personnel Certification Workshops.

ANAB-CFP Accreditation Program

ANAB has a second personnel certification accreditation program for food protection managers. On June 17, 2002, ANAB-Conference for Food Protection (CFP) accreditation program was implemented. ANAB and the Conference for Food Protection entered into a cooperative agreement to accredit organizations involved in the certification of food protection managers. This new program is based on the Conference for Food Protection Accreditation Standard.
