Seeking Contract Assessors for Product / Process / Services Accreditation Standards

ANAB is seeking contract assessors to assess third-party product certification accreditation programs. This ANAB program accredits third-party conformity assessment bodies (CABs) against the requirements of ISO/IEC 17065:2012, certification schemes, and applicable normative standards.

Some of the certification schemes in which assessors are being sought include (but are not limited to) the following:

Food Safety

  • BRC Global Standards (BRCGS)

  • FDA Accredited Third-Party Accreditation Program
  • GLOBALG.A.P
  • International Featured Standard (IFS)
  • Safe Quality Food (SQF)

Telecommunications Certification Programs (TCB)

  • USA (FCC)
  • Canada (IC)
  • European Union (EU)
  • Hong Kong (OFTA)
  • Japan (MIC)
  • Singapore (iDA)
Eco-labeling and Sustainability Programs
  • Type I and Type III – Eco-labeling Certification Programs
  • BIFMA level Furniture Sustainability Standard
  • Textile Exchange Program
  • Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS)
  • Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) Program/ Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC)
Government Programs
  • EPA Energy Star® Program
  • EPA WaterSense Certification Program
  • ONC Permanent Certification Program for Health Information Technology

The desired contract assessors will perform accreditation assessments of ANAB applicant and accredited product certification bodies. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting assessments to determine compliance with the accreditation standard, certification scheme, and applicable policies and procedures. The assessment would witness a sampling of the certification activities specified by the certification scheme.
  • Handling post-assessment activities including but not limited to documenting assessment results (e.g., assessment report, nonconformances) and reviewing corrective action responses;
  • Providing technical support including but not limited to application reviews;
  • Providing assistance in investigating complaints as requested; and
  • Participating in ANAB assessor development sessions.

In addition to demonstrating various skills, knowledge, and personal behaviors, assessor candidates shall have successfully completed a lead auditor training course (e.g., ISO 9001) or equivalent and shall have auditing or assessing experience (first-, second-, or third-party) to demonstrate the necessary breadth of understanding of the various applications of the standards.

ANAB is seeking the following individuals to support the ANAB Product Certification Accreditation Program:


Lead Assessors

Lead Assessors, or Team Lead, are assigned to lead the assessment team and have knowledge and experience in evaluating an applicant or accredited certification body’s management system. Using interviews, observations, and review of policies and procedures, lead assessors manage the overall assessment and determines conformance of the organization's management system to accreditation and scheme requirements.

Lead assessors are responsible for:

  • Working with ANAB and the assessment team to complete assignments as directed;
  • Having knowledge of leading teams and management systems in order to ensure the CB conforms with the accreditation standard and relevant certification scheme requirements;
  • Providing a detailed summary and thorough description of any nonconformities identified;
  • Providing the necessary documentation to support assessment activities;

Technical Assessors

Technical assessors participate as members on ANAB assessment team possessing the technical knowledge and/or experience related to the certification scheme. Using interviews, observations, and technical file reviews, technical assessors conduct assessments of an organization's conformance to accreditation and scheme requirements and evaluate the organization's technical competence to conduct activities under the organization's scope of accreditation.

Technical assessors are responsible for:

  • Working with ANAB and lead assessors to complete assignments as directed;
  • Using technical knowledge to ensure the CB has the technical competence to perform relevant certification scheme activities;
  • Providing a detailed summary and thorough description of any technical deficiencies identified;
  • Providing the necessary documentation to support assessment activities;

Technical Experts

ANAB is currently looking for technical experts for various fields, including but not limited to, Cybersecurity Risk Management, Functional Safety, Infant Formula Food Safety in accordance with U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) regulations.

Technical experts participate as members of the assessment team and are assigned by ANAB to provide specific technical knowledge and/or expertise about the scope of accreditation to be assessed. Using interviews, observations, and technical file reviews, technical experts support the assessment team in determining an organizations' conformance to the specific technical requirements of the certification scheme.

Technical experts are responsible for:

  • Working with ANAB assessment team to complete the assignment as directed;
  • Using their technical knowledge to ensure understanding of the relevant technical standards of the certification scheme by the CB;
  • Providing the assessment team a thorough description of any technical deficiencies identified and any observations relating to the competency and technical capability of the certification body.
