ISO/IEC 17067:2013, and its predecessor ISO/IEC Guide 67:2004 have been in use for more than 20 years as guidance for product certification schemes. This guidance proved especially valuable when ISO/IEC 17065:2012 set requirements for product, process, and service certification bodies but stated it “. . . does not set requirements for schemes and how they are developed and is not intended to restrict the role or choice of scheme owners.” The examples of product certification schemes (the well-known ”Types”) in ISO/IEC 17067 have been used to characterize product certification schemes in both regulatory and voluntary contexts.
In July 2023, ISO CASCO Member voted not just to revise ISO/IEC 17067, but to also expand its scope so that it provides guidance on all types of schemes, which potentially makes the revised ISO/IEC 17067 as foundationally important as ISO/IEC 17000.
Key Takeaways
- Review progress to date
- Discuss the impact on the existing “Types” of product certification schemes
- Address key issues under consideration in the revision process
