This “hybrid” course combines the core content of two of our most popular curriculums: Measurement Confidence Fundamentals and Measurement Uncertainty Practical Applications, into a robust 2-day course that can only be taught in-person.

We will review the basic concepts and accreditation requirements associated with measurement traceability, measurement assurance, and measurement uncertainty as well as their interrelationships. Basic statistics will be introduced, including how they are used to quantify an uncertainty component. The Process for Estimating and Reporting Measurement Uncertainty will be presented.

Participants will put their newly acquired knowledge into practice with exercises on identifying uncertainty components, specifying the measurement process and calculating and/or estimating standard uncertainties, combined standard uncertainties, and expanded uncertainties.

The course concludes with a discussion on reporting of measurement uncertainty and the importance of having sufficient knowledge about the fundamental concepts of measurement traceability, uncertainty and assurance, and statistics for effective testimony regarding measurement uncertainty.

  • Understand the concepts of measurement traceability, uncertainty, and assurance and their interrelationships. Understand ISO/IEC 17025ISO/IEC 17020, and ANAB accreditation requirements related to uncertainty of measurement.
  • Demonstrate through practical exercises the application of a basic process for the evaluation of a supplier used to establish measurement traceability.
  • Acquire knowledge about basic statistics, including probability density functions and how these statistics are used to quantify an uncertainty component
  • Learn a basic process for estimating measurement uncertainty and through practical application demonstrate this knowledge by estimating an uncertainty of measurement
  • Understand the importance of having sufficient knowledge regarding these fundamental concepts of statistics and measurement uncertainty for effective testimony

This training course is designed for laboratory management and technical staff responsible for review of uncertainties, and for consultants working with organizations seeking or maintaining accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025

This Training will be conducted Live In-Person in Denver, CO
at the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center.
