Seeking Contract Assessors (Generalists/Psychometricians) for ANAB Personnel Certification Accreditation Program

Position Summary: The ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), the largest multi-disciplinary accreditation body in the western hemisphere, with more than 2,500 organizations accredited in approximately 80 countries, seeks dynamic and national experts in the fields of psychometrics, healthcare, manufacturing, information technology, finance, and energy for consideration as assessors for the ANAB Personnel Certification Accreditation Program. Qualified assessors will serve on a contractual basis to evaluate the competence and integrity of organizations across all industries that offer certifications for persons against the accreditation criteria contained in ISO/IEC 17024:2012 Conformity assessment – General requirements for bodies operating certification of persons as well as relevant ANAB policies and procedures. Assessors plan assessments, review documentation, conduct onsite assessments, issue nonconformities and evaluate corrective action, and report results to accreditation decision makers. Desirable assessor candidates will have had leadership experience in certification and/or accreditation organizations. Once selected, successful assessor candidates must participate and successfully pass classroom and field training regarding the 17024 standard and ANAB accreditation process. The final step is approval from the ANAB Credentialing Assessor Review Panel.

  • For generalist assessors: minimum Bachelor’s degree
  • For psychometrics assessors: minimum Doctoral degree in educational measurement or other measurement-related fields
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in certification/accreditation/assessment/program evaluation
  • Knowledge of general quality management system principles and tools
  • Basic computer/technology skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal relations and interviewing skills
  • Ability to work in environments under high-pressure situations and produce deliverables in a timely manner
  • Conflict resolution skills

  • Ability to impartially evaluate the outcomes of an assessment and make evidence-based decisions
  • Experience designing, filling or reviewing online applications


  • Thoroughly review program applicant’s policies, procedures, and additional documentation for conformance to accreditation criteria;
  • Conduct onsite assessments to ensure program applicant’s documentation aligns with program practices and implementation; may require travel;  
  • Maintain effective written and oral communication with client organization and ANAB staff at all times.

Seeking Contract Assessors for Management Systems Standards

ANAB is seeking contract assessors to assess third-party certification management systems accreditation programs. Some of the programs in need of assessors include:

  • Information Security (ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27701)
  • Aviation, Space and Defense (AS9100, AS9110, AS9120)
  • Responsible Recycling (R2, e-Stewards®)
  • Recycling Industry Operating Standard (RIOS)
  • Responsible Care (RC14001)
  • Food Safety (ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, FDA FSMA)

Contract assessors perform management system accreditation assessments of ANAB applicant and accredited certification bodies. Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting office and witness accreditation assessments as a lead assessor or team assessor.
  • Handling post-assessment activities including but not limited to documenting assessment results (e.g., assessment report, nonconformances) and reviewing corrective action responses.
  • Providing technical support including but not limited to application reviews.
  • Providing technical assistance in investigating complaints as requested.
  • Participating in ANAB assessor development sessions.

In addition to demonstrating various skills, knowledge, and personal behaviors, candidates shall have successfully completed a lead auditor training course for a management system standard (e.g., ISO 14001, ISO 45001, R2, ISO 9001, ISO 22000, etc.) or equivalent and shall have a wide range of auditing or assessing experience (first-, second-, or third-party) to have gained the necessary breadth of understanding of the various applications of the standards.

Seeking Technical Experts

ANAB is looking for technical experts for various fields related to ANAB laboratory, inspection body, proficiency test provider, and reference material producer accreditation programs.

Technical experts participate as members on ANAB assessment teams. Using interviews, observations, and documentation and technical file reviews, teams conduct assessments of organizations' conformance to the accreditation requirements and evaluation of their technical competence to conduct activities under the scope of accreditation. 

Technical experts are assigned by ANAB to provide specific technical knowledge and expertise about the scope of accreditation to be assessed. 

Technical experts are responsible for:

  • Working with ANAB and the lead assessor to assist in development of an assessment plan.
  • Working under the direction of the lead assessor to complete the assignment as directed.
  • Using their technical knowledge to ensure correct performance of the relevant technical activities as assigned by the lead assessor.
  • Providing the lead assessor a thorough description of any technical deficiencies identified.
  • Providing a detailed summary of all technical comments and observations relating to the competency and technical capability of the observed customer.
  • Working with the lead assessor to provide any necessary documentation to support the assessment activities.
